Turkey fryer oil & grease
Never pour fats, oils or grease down the sink or garbage disposal. Pour small amounts of cooled cooking oil into a non-recyclable container and put it in the trash. Grease and liquids are not allowed in the green organics bin. City residents can recycle up to 30 gallons of cooking oil and grease free at the Miramar Recycling Center (not for commercial food businesses).
Extra trash
Bins must not overflow: trash above the rim keeps the lid from closing. Bag or wrap loose trash before it goes in the bin. If you regularly run out of room, request a larger or extra bin (35, 65 or 95 gallons) at sandiego.gov/get-it-done or 858-694-7000. Bins must be at the curb by 6 a.m.
Boxes & wrapping
Flatten boxes and put clean, dry cardboard loose in the blue recycling bin. Never bag recyclables; plastic bags, film and plastic wrap don't belong in the blue bin. The City also publishes a special holiday edition of its What Goes Where guide.
Tip
Keep the green bin for food scraps, but leave out grease and liquids.
